Allison Bergman brings a deep-rooted background in public education and administrative compliance to Barger & Gaines. Before transitioning to the law, she spent over a decade as a special education teacher, literacy support specialist, and adjunct professor.
Her extensive hands-on experience in public school districts—navigating IEP compliance, conducting evaluations, and serving in district-level roles—provided her with a firsthand view of complex educational disputes. Driven by a desire to help families find creative, meaningful solutions for children who are struggling, she made a career pivot to special education advocacy and law.
She earned her Juris Doctor from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University and worked part-time as a legal intern with Barger & Gaines throughout her studies. Having taken the New York bar examination in July 2026, she currently works full-time across all practice areas of the firm while awaiting her admission results.
Her academic foundation is exceptionally broad, including an Advanced Certificate in Intermediate Administration from Sacred Heart University, an M.S. in Education in Literacy from LIU Hudson, an M.S. in Education with Distinction from Mercy University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising from Temple University.
Among her teaching and education roles, she served for over five years in Stamford Public Schools as an Elementary Special Education Literacy Support Specialist, 7th-grade special education teacher, IEP compliance manager, and paraeducator. In these positions, she provided targeted literacy instruction, conducted initial and triennial evaluations, and guided Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams through complex regulatory requirements. Her experience also extends to higher education, and as an adjunct professor at LIU Hudson, she taught a graduate-level course in elementary literacy and language arts instruction. In addition, she spent nearly a decade directing enrichment programming and serving as a special education liaison at Purchase Day Camp in Westchester County.
A Westchester resident, she is an avid reader and book club member, as well as a die-hard sports fan who loves the Yankees and Knicks and plays in local volleyball leagues.
